While as a merchant you may not know these statistics, you should understand that the threat against your business is real. And, the payment card brands expect merchants to protect themselves against possible data compromise.
Information embedded on a payment card’s magnetic stripe is valuable and must be protected. Unfortunately, cyber criminals have access to tools that can hack into payment systems and obtain a cardholder’s secure information. Merchants not compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) are at a greater risk of security breaches from cyber criminals.
